Archive Prints
Burberry’s 1990s-era silk shirts feature playful renderings of everyday objects including timepieces, charms, English porcelain and nautical motifs. These archive details inspire Riccardo Tisci’s silk scarf designs for Spring/Summer 2019. (Image 1997-1998).
The Silk Chignon
Drawing on the Burberry Autumn/Winter 1992 collection, a silk scarf originally elegantly styled in the hair has been reimagined as a sophisticated chignon for Spring/Summer 2019.
The Unicorn
The unicorn – an emblem of the Burberry family, discovered in the archive, engraved on Thomas Burberry’s silverware. The motif has been recreated again for Spring/Summer 2019 on silk scarves. (Left, Burberry family spoon, 1852).
Print Evolution
Redefining a brand icon: a wallpaper design discovered in the Burberry Home Collection (1998–2000) was the inspiration for the Icon Stripe, as seen in Spring/Summer 2019. A 1991 Society-print scarf, celebrating the debut of the women’s fragrance, is reissued for the new season – adorning runway trousers and silk accessories.
